What does the procedure involve?
1. Assessment & planning
We start with a full discussion of all possible treatment options, before assessing your suitability for dental implants. We take X-rays and prepare digital models of your teeth to ensure your treatment is accurate and precise. If required, we discuss bone regeneration treatment, which can be carried out with implant placement. We also create your personalised written treatment plan, detailing procedures and costs.
2. Implant placement
The implant placement itself is a simple minor surgical procedure, which is carried out by our skilled implant dentists in our practice. We use local anaesthetic to minimise your discomfort, and can use sedation if needed.
3. Integration period
Dental implants can take anything from six weeks to six months to fuse with your jawbone and create a solid foundation. During this integration period, we fit you with a temporary bridge or denture to protect your gum. In some cases, temporary teeth can be fixed to your implants while they integrate.
4. Restoring your smile
Once your dental implants have healed and fused with your jawbone, your bespoke new teeth are designed and created. You could have a single crown, small or large bridge, or removable overdenture, made to your exact specifications for a beautiful result.
5. Maintenance
To finish your dental implant treatment, we give you detailed instructions to help you look after your restoration. This includes keeping up with regular check-up and hygienist appointments so we can make sure your dental implant stays problem-free.

Bone graft
If you are missing teeth or have worn dentures for a long time, your jawbone will likely have receded, leading to a sunken facial appearance and insufficient volume for implant placement. A bone graft can help provide the best possible foundation for dental implants. We use a mixture of your own bone and a safe and effective bone substitute. This acts as a framework, guiding your body’s cells to generate healthy new bone that seamlessly integrates with your jaw tissue. Once fully healed, this area becomes as robust as natural bone, so we can proceed with the implant treatment.

Sinus lift
Sinus lift surgery is designed to add bone between your jaw and maxillary sinuses, on either side of your nose. The sinus membrane is moved upwards, or lifted, to make room for the new bone. This is a complex procedure only carried out by experienced dental surgeons.

If you have been told that you have insufficient bone volume even after a grafting procedure, Zygomatic implants may give you the solution you’re after. Zygomatic implants are longer than the traditional type, and anchored in the upper jawbone, closer to the dense zygoma bone.
